Serre Chevalier

Serre Chevalier really is a hidden gem when it comes to the ski area. Whether you are a skier or boarder, beginner or seasoned pro, Serre Che really does offer something for everyone!

Serre Chevalier is home to one of the largest ski areas in Europe, with over 250km of marked piste to play with. The area benefits from an excellent climate, with over 300 days of sunshine every year and a good snow record. Read more about Summer in Serre Chevalier. Even when snow cover is light, there is an extensive network of snow making facilities, covering around 80km of piste. The area has been cleverly designed however, with plenty of thought put into slope orientation and location. Therefore, although the highest point in the area is "only" 2800m, the majority of the skiing is above 2000m and is on north facing slopes. This all comes together to mean that, normally, when the snow arrives, it stays!

The ski area is divided into 4 parts: Briancon (where we are based!), Chantemerle, Villeneuve and Monetier-les-Bains. Briancon claims to be the second highest city in Europe, at an elevation of 1200m. Thanks to its size, Briancon has all the amenities you could possibly need and offers a wide range of accommodation, shops, restaurants and bars. What's more, the 17th century fortified old town (World Heritage Site) sits high above the new town and is well worth a visit, with it's delightful cobbled streets and quaint shops. Access to the ski area is via the Prorel bubble in the middle of town.

One of the stand out features of the area is the huge number of trees and the altitude to which they extend to. While they offer some excellent off-piste, they also mean no more wasted 'white-out' days. The off-piste in Serre Che is some of the best around and is very accessible. It is well worth hiring a guide for a day to experience some untouched back country.

There is a decent snow park for those that want, with jumps and rails for all abilities. There are also a number of 'fun zones' such as the Boardercross and the Melezone. Another excellent feature of the area are the free to use BBQ areas. There are 2 - one located above Briancon and one between Villeneuve and Monetier. The concept is simple: you supply the food, they supply the BBQ and the views. This is a great way to have lunch on the mountain and there is even free wifi.

Let us welcome you to Serre Chevalier, where you can explore, indulge and unwind among the sensational mountain scenery.
